AUM Drops Hard Fought Contest To Union, 3-1

Maya Thompson had 16 kills and hit .563

JACKSON, Tenn. - Maya Thompson had a season-high 16 kills but AUM wasn't as consistent as it needed to be, falling to Union, 3-1, at Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Friday night.

AUM (4-9, 1-3 Gulf South) hit just .115 and wasn't able to pull out the victory on a night where Thompson hit .563. Greta Corrente had 12 kills and 11 digs, with Kendall McCain, Savannah Sebek and Taylor Lewis all recording double-digit digs.

Union (4-10, 2-3) outhit AUM slightly at .162 and registered more kills, aces, digs, blocks and assists by the end of four sets.

First Set
The first set had three lead changes and eight ties. AUM trailed 23-21 before grabbing a 24-23 lead on a pair of Corrente kills and a bad Bulldog set. But Union blocked Corrent on set point and then scored an ace and a kill for a 26-24 win.

Second Set
Union erased an early 4-3 deficit with a 10-0 run for a 13-4 lead. The Bulldogs never looked back en route to a 25-15 score for a 2-0 lead.

Third Set
As bad as the third set was for AUM, they flipped the script in the fourth, racing out to a 9-0 lead. They ended up closing the frame on a 7-2 run for a 25-12 triumph.

Fourth Set
The final set was again very competitive, with neither team leading by more than three throughout. The Warhawks fought off a pair of match points on Corrente kills but the Bulldogs scored the final two points for a 26-24 win.

AUM will return to action on Saturday afternoon with a road match at Christian Brothers (4-10, 0-4). First serve at Canale Arena is set for 2 p.m.
