MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The AUM women's soccer team continued Gulf South Conference play on Sunday with Alabama Huntsville in a 3-2 setback at AUM Soccer Complex.
AUM (2-5-2, 0-4-1) recorded six shots, with three on goal and seven points in Sunday's match. Alabama Huntsville (3-1-1, 4-4-1) finished with 18 shots total and 11 on goal as they scored two second half goals.
The Chargers jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 25
th minute. A corner kick from Maialen Mera led to a goal by Sabrina Da Silva. AUM has allowed a goal in the first half of each conference match so far this season.
Freshman
Lucy Thomas has scored a goal in consecutive games now for AUM and is up to three on the season. Her goal in Sunday's match evened the game at one in the 50
th minute and was assisted on by
Laia Gonzalez.
UAH recaptured the lead with two goals that came late in the game to gain a 3-1 advantage. Jayla Gillespie delivered a score in the 83
rd minute, while Michella Tortelli added another in the 85
th minute.
AUM would answer quickly and score in the 86
th minute to cut the defecit to just one goal. Gonzalez scored on an assist from
Reia Henry that was created by a corner kick. Gonzalez recorded a goal and an assist in Sunday's match
The Warhawks battled in a back and forth conference matchup with the Chargers but were unable to overcome the two goal deficit late in the game.
AUM will return to action Friday, October 11 when the squad travels to Spring Hill. Kick off in Mobile, Alabama is set for 1 p.m. p.m. Central Time.
