MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Malachi Rhodes had 17 points and 13 rebounds to help lead the AUM men's basketball team past Miles, 60-57, in the homeopener at the AUM Athletics Complex on Tuesday.

AUM (3-2) shot 46.2 percent from the floor and had four scorers in double figures. The Warhawks late-game defensive stops allowed them to seal their third victory of the season.

In addition to Rhodes, Chapelle Whitney had 16 points with three 3-pointers, Talib Ferrette had 11 and Gilbert Croley finished with 10.

AUM opened the first half on a 9-0 run and forced Miles (4-2) into three turnovers. Whitney led the way for the Warhawks with 10 points while shooting 4-7 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc.
The Warhawks controlled a 14-point lead, their largest lead of the half before the Bears cut it to just three at halftime. The run by Miles was led by Corey Trotter with 16 points and 15 rebounds. 
The Bears would take their first lead of the game since the 19-minute mark of the first half, after forcing the Warhawks into five early turnovers coming out of the halftime. The second half featured five lead changes.

AUM went on a late 6-0 run to regain the lead with five minutes to play. The Warhawk defensive came up with key stops down the stretch to hold on for the three-point win.

Miles got 22 points and 23 rebounds from Trotter and the only other double figure scorer was Alvin Miles with 19 points. 

The Golden Bears outrebounded the Warhawks, 36-34, but the Orange and Black forced 11 turnovers while only committing nine.

AUM will return to action on Thursday, December 5 when they open Gulf South Conference play by hosting Trevecca Nazarene at 7:30 p.m.
