Sam Youngblood led three players in double figures as the AUM men's basketball team fell to Florida Southern, 109-79, in its season-opener at the Jenkins Field House on Friday afternoon,
AUM shot 42 percent and scored 40 points in the paint. In addition to Youngblood,
Malachi Rhodes had 13 points and
Trent Coleman had 12.Â
FSC improved to 2-1 with 47 percent shooting and a plus-19 rebounding margin. The Mocs scored 21 second-chance points on 23 offensive rebounds. Donovan Smith made eight 3-pointers to score a game-high 24 points off the bench. They made 14 triples as a team and finished with six players in double figures.
The Mocs used a 9-0 run to extend their advantage to 35-17 with 5:36 left in the first half. The Warhawks scored the last four points of the period to trim the deficit to 49-34 at the break.
AUM will face Saint Leo (1-0) on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off at the Marion Bowman Activities Center is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
