CBU Defeats AUM, 81-71

Paul Lanzi scored a career-high 28

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Paul Lanzi scored a career-high 28 points on Saturday in an 81-71 AUM loss to Christian Brothers at the AUM Athletics Complex.

CBU took advantage of a size mismatch in the first half as the visitors built a 42-22 halftime lead.

AUM fought back in the second period, pulling to within eight on three different occasions. The last came with 4:11 to play but Lanzi's 3-point attempt was off the mark and CBU got a putback layup and two free throws to grow the margin back to 12.

AUM (5-6, 2-4 Gulf South) shot 38 percent for the game but made a concerted effort to get to the free throw line in the second half, finishing 24-for-29 for 83 percent.

CBU (5-6, 1-4) was led by Christian Thompson and Take Kirisome, who each had 18 points. Thompson did most of his work in the first half, scoring 13, while Kirisome had 11 after the break. The Bucs held a 51-20 rebounding edge and scored 46 points in the paint.

AUM will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 4, when it plays host to Montevallo (10-2, 6-0. Tip-off at the AUM Athletics Complex is at 4 p.m.
