Softball Rallies In Extra Innings To Knock Off Florida Tech

LONGWOOD, Fla. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team won 4-3 on Sunday against Florida Tech in eight innings on the final day of the Panther Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • Gia Martin got the first hit of the game with single to right field in the top of the second inning, but the Warhawks could not scratch a run. 
  • Florida Tech loaded the bases with two walks and a single in the second inning with no outs. AUM's defense stepped up and got three outs in a row to end the inning. 
  • Faith Wheat got on base in the top of the fourth after she was hit by a pitch. Moments later, Molly Cobb doubled to right center field and brought Wheat home. Lexie Bullock pinch ran for Cobb and scored off a double from Martin to give AUM a two-run lead. 
  • Martin posted her third hit of the day with a homer over the right field wall to push AUM in front 3-0. 
  • The Panthers tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning after a RBI double and a two RBI double. 
  • In the top of the eighth, Florida Tech intentionally walked Martin, which then brought up Rebecca Komers. Komers singled to left field and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error, which sent Martin all the way home. AUM took a 4-3 lead. 
  • The Panthers got two base-runners on, but could not score a run and the Warhawks picked up the win. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
  • Chelisa Newsome earned her first career win after tossing seven innings. She struck four batters out and allowed three runs on four hits with two runs being earned. 
  • Avery Dickerson worked the eighth inning, striking out two batters. She also tallied her first career save. 
NOTABLES
  • Chloe Baynes extended her hit-streak to nine games. 
  • Molly Cobb has reached base in every game this season. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks open Gulf South Conference play at Valdosta State University on Saturday, February 17 at noon with a doubleheader. The series will close on Sunday, February 18 at noon.
