Softball Falls In Game Three At Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team dropped a series deciding game at Valdosta State University on Sunday afternoon at Steel's Diamond in Gulf South Conference action.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Valdosta State struck first in the opening weekend when Katie Proctor hit a two-run homer. 
  • Chloe Derrick tallied a RBI with a single to right field that scored Gia Martin to cut the Blazer lead in half. 
  • In the third inning, Shelby Newsome had a RBI single that brought home pinch runner Whitney Wells to tie it up at 2 runs a piece. 
  • In the bottom of the third, VSU opened the game up with a bases loaded single scored one run to make it 3-2 for the Blazers. Aniston Gano squared off on a grand slam to stretch the lead to 7-2. 
  • Margaret Morgan got on base after being hit by a pitch and Chloe Baynes singled to left field to put Morgan on second base. Molly Cobb doubled to left field and scored Morgan to make it 7-3. 
  • VSU tacked on a run with another home run in the bottom of the fifth. 
  • The Lady Blazers added three more runs off a solo home run and two RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to close the game. 
ON THE MOUND
  • Morgan Ferguson (2-1) took the loss working 3.2 innings and allowed seven earned runs on six hits. She struck four batters out and walked three. 
  • Alanna Goble tossed the final 1.2 innings striking out two batters. She gave up four earned runs on five hits. 
NOTABLES
  • Haley Ann Frank has recorded a hit in seven consecutive games. 
  • Baynes and Cobb have reached base in all 12 games this season. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks welcome No. 8 Mississippi College to the AUM Softball Complex for a three-game series beginning on Saturday, February 24 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
