Softball Drops Sunday Series Finale Against No. 6 Mississippi College

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team dropped the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex against No. 6 Mississippi College in Gulf South Conference action by a final score of 3-0.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Mississippi College got to work in no time with back-to-back hits in the top of the first inning. A groundout scored one run in the inning. 
  • In the second inning, Gia Martin drew a walk and it was followed by a double from Chloe Derrick that sent Martin to third with one out. Back-to-back outs ended the frame. 
  • MC's McCall Lee hit a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the third to push the Lady Choctaws up 2-0. 
  • Kat Fallen tallied a base hit in the bottom of the fourth and Martin drew another walk to put runners on first and second, but three fly outs in a row ended the inning. 
  • Mississippi College's Shelby Samples tallied an RBI single in the top of the fifth to add an additional run. 
  • AUM left a runner on base in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning, but could not plate a run as the Lady Choctaws secured the GSC victory. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Sydni Free (L, 0-1) made her season debut and worked six frames and allowed three runs on nine hits. She struck a pair of batters out and did not walk a batter. 
  • Chelisa Newsome made her fourth appearance of the season and worked one inning, allowing no runs. She struck one batter out. 
NOTABLES
  • Chloe Baynes extended her streak of reaching base to 21 games, dating back to the 2023 season. 
  • Margaret Morgan hit a ball in the fifth inning to make her hitting-streak six games. 
  • Derrick, Baynes, and Fallen are all on a five-game hitting-streak.

The Warhawks welcome Georgia Southwestern State University to the AUM Softball Complex on Tuesday, February 27 for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
