Warhawks Clinch Seventh GSC Series Win with Alumni Day Sweep of West Georgia

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team spun a pair of shutouts on Alumni Day to sweep a doubleheader against the University of West Georgia to clinch the squad's seventh series win in Gulf South Conference play.

Clay Slagle, Michael Myers, and Payte Williams combined to pitch 14 shutout innings to hold the Wolves off the scoreboard in front of a packed house of fans, former AUM players and coaches, and their families.

The wins were the first two shutouts of the season for AUM and marked the first time the Warhawks shut out an opponent in back-to-back games since March 7, 2015, when AUM defeated Loyola University 9-0 and 13-0 in a doubleheader.

GM 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Warhawks hung five runs on the board in the second inning to get the scoring started. 
  • Jarren Wright drove in a run with an RBI groundout and RH Frankland scored on a passed ball.
  • Ceman then scored when Brendan York reached on an error, and Kasey Clark doubled home a pair.
  • York added a two-run single in the fourth frame to make it 7-0.
  • Ceman sliced a two-RBI double inside the right-field line, York plated a run with a base hit, and AUM made it 12-0 when York scored on a wild pitch.
GM 1 ON THE MOUND 
  • Clay Slagle (6-2) picked up the win, his team-leading sixth, with five shutout innings. He allowed two hits and two walks against four strikeouts.
  • Michael Myers spun two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.
GM 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • AUM got held off the scoreboard through the first five innings but broke through in the sixth inning.
  • Kasey Clark smacked a two-out single up the middle to keep the inning alive, and three pitches later, Zach Dew drilled a two-run homer deep to left to send the Warhawks in front.
  • RH Frankland added a two-run single after Cooper Doughman single and Wright walked to add to the lead.
GM 2 ON THE MOUND 
  • Payte Williams (4-3) went the distance with seven shutout innings. He allowed three base runners, all singles, and struck out four hitters.

  • Slagle has won his last five starts, while Williams has won his last three starts for AUM.
  • Williams fired the third complete game by a Warhawks this season.
  • Ceman collected multiple hits twice over the weekend, his 12th and 13th such games this year.
  • Rooks added his 18th multi-hit effort by going 3-for-3 in game two of the series.
  • Clark turned in his team-leading ninth game with multiple RBIs in game three.
  • Dew (8), Ceman (7), Frankland (7), Wright (6), and York (4) also all added a multi-RBI game in the series.
  • Clark, Ceman, and Frankland have all been in base in 13 straight games, the longest active streak by a Warhawk.

  • The Warhawks finish the series with Alumni Day against the University of West Georgia on Saturday, April 13. The series concludes with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Q.V. Lowe Field.
