Softball Scores 14 Runs In First Inning, Takes Game One Of Super Regional

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The No. 1 seed Auburn University at Montgomery softball team's offense exploded for 14 runs in the opening inning against the No. 2 seed Mississippi College in the NCAA South Super Regional on the way to a 14-1 victory at the AUM Softball Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Alanna Goble struck out two of the first three batters she faced out to open the game. 
  • In the bottom of the first inning, AUM scored 14 runs on 10 hits. Haley Ann Frank, Chloe Derrick, Rebecca Komers, Chloe Baynes, Molly Cobb, Gia Martin, and Shelby Newsome all batted in runs. Baynes, Frank, Derrick, and Newsome all scored two times, while Kat Fallen, Martin, and Margaret Morgan scored once. 
  • Mississippi College scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning off a RBI-single up the middle. 
  • Goble was able to get the final three batters to flyout as the Warhawks took the win in game one of the NCAA Division II South Super Regional. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Alanna Goble (W, 20-3) earned the victory in the circle working the complete game in five innings and only allowing one run on four hits. She struck out five batters. 
FROM THE DUGOUT

"It feels great to win the first game of Super Regionals," head softball coach Scottie Wilkes said. "Super proud of our offense for scoring 14 runs and our pitching and defense keeping their offense at a minimum. We will enjoy the win today and then refocus for tomorrow." 

UP NEXT

The Warhawks and Lady Choctaws meet again on Wednesday, May 15 at Noon with a trip to the NCAA Division II World Series on the line. The Warhawks must win one game and MC has to win twice.
