GSC CHAMPS! Softball Takes Down Top-Seeded Mississippi College To Clinch GSC Title

AUM Softball Wins Third GSC Tournament Championship

OXFORD, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team won the 2024 Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon at Choccolocco Park with a 
9-3 victory against the top-seed Mississippi College.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Neither team could score a run until the fourth frame when Chloe Derrick hit a single to right center field and scored Haley Ann Frank. It was followed with Shelby Newsome hit an infield single and scored Gia Martin. Whitney Wells was in as a pinch-runner and Margaret Morgan hit a single to make it 3-0. 
  • MC's Rigney hit a single through the right side and scored Jenny Griggers to get a run back at 3-1. 
  • Molly Cobb flew out to center field and was far enough for Baynes to score. Kat Fallen singled through the left side and brought Frank home to make it 5-1 in the fifth frame. 
  • In the sixth inning, Baynes singled in the infield and Rebecca Komers scored an unearned run to make it 6-1. 
  • Molly Cobb brought home two runs in the sixth inning with a single to right center field and it was 8-1. 
  • Martin hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to make it 9-1. 
  • The Choctaws hit a two-run shot in the seventh and it was 9-3, but a groundout eded the game as AUM clinched the title. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Alanna Goble (W, 17-3) earned the win working the seven inning game and allowing just three runs on three hits. She struck out three batters and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

"We are GSC Champions!" head coach Scottie Wilkes said. "So proud of this team and what they accomplished today. They played great all week and continued the performance today. I am so proud and happy for this team!"

UP NEXT

The Warhawks earn the auto-bid to the NCAA Division II South Regional and will learn what seed they will be on Monday, May 5 when the NCAA Selection Show airs.
