INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For the second week in a row, the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team earned a spot in the NCAA South Region rankings released on Wednesday, May 8, as the Warhawks occupy the No. 5 spot in this week's rankings.
The Warhawks, under consideration when the NCAA released its initial rankings two weeks ago, were ranked at No. 4 last week. AUM notched the program's 25th season with 30 or more wins and advanced to the third day of the 2024 Gulf South Conference tournament for the first time in school history.
AUM set a school record for GSC wins with a 20-10 regular season mark in league play to earn the conference tournament's No. 2 seed.
The region rankings, released in rank order, is a list of 10 teams being considered to advance to the NCAA South Region tournament, to be held May 16-19. The NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, May 12 at 9 p.m. CT, where teams will find out the field of eight teams selected to compete in the postseason in the South Region.
The University of Tampa (SSC), Savannah State University (SIAC), and the University of West Florida (GSC) clinched the region's automatic berths, with five at-large spots remaining.
AUM has already piled up an impressive list of accolades and recognition under the direction of first-year head coach
Franklin Bush. The Warhawks boast 30 wins thus far this season, the second-highest win total for the program since 2017. AUM has also been featured in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll for six straight weeks, including the highest ranking of the school's NCAA Division II era two weeks ago (No. 21).
The black and orange were also ranked No. 7 in the NCBWA's South Region poll and have been featured in 12 straight NCBWA regional polls dating back to February 20, 2024.
