MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The sixth-ranked AUM men's soccer team played Clayton State to a 1-1 tie at the AUM Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
AUM (2-0-1) claimed a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute before CSU (1-1-2) tied it four minutes later. Neither team was able to tally anymore goals the remainder of the contest.
The Warhawks got on the board late in the first half when
Landon Surratt sent a throw in into the goal box.
Tasker Wheeler had the initial touch before
Nick Atkinson swung his right foot on the bouncing ball and slipped it into the goal. It was his first goal of the young season.
The Lakers answered with a goal just 3:51 later when Vic Degado dribble down the sideline before centering the ball outside the box to Alexis Iturria who's shot ricocheted off an AUM defender and past
William Blake in goal.
Both teams had stretches where they possessed the ball in the opponent's end of the field for minutes at a time in the second half but neither side could register a score.
Blake made two saves for AUM in the first 45 minutes before
Alfie Rule stopped three shots in the second half. For CSU, Mauricio Uribe totaled four saves.
AUM will return to play next weekend with road contests at Carson-Newman on Thursday and Lander on Saturday.
