This Week In AUM Athletics: Sept. 16-22

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Each week, the Auburn University at Montgomery Office of Athletics Communications previews the upcoming week with “This Week in AUM Athletics.” We've got women's volleyball hosting the Wahawk Invitational, with men's and women's soccer and the tennis programs on the road this week.

  • Following two weekends on the road where they went 3-3 overall, it's time for the 2024 Warhawk Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the AUM Athletics Complex. The Warhawks welcome Arkansas Tech, Palm Beach Atlantic and Shorter to town for some high-level volleyball.   • AUM went 1-2 at the Chowan Invitational last week, picking up a solid 3-0 win over the host Hawks, coming from behind in two of the three sets..
  • Maya Thompson, Kendall McCain and Emily Brown are the top offensive threats for the Orange and Black thus far, combining for 147 of the team's 224 kills in six matches - an average of 7.35 kills per set. The Warhawks have used a two setter system, with Campbell Gash and Savannah Sebek each putting up more than 4.1 assists per set.

  • The men's soccer program is ranked number 6 nationally and has a 2-0-1 record following Sunday's 1-1 tie with Clayton State. The Warhawks will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Carson-Newman on Thursday and Lander on Saturday.
  • The Warhawks are again built around strong defense as they have allowed just one goal in three games for a 0.33 goals-against average. That figure ranks tenth in the country.
  • Offensively, AUM averages 1.35 goals per game on 11 shots per game. The Warhawks have scored first in all three game this season.

  • The men's and women's tennis teams will make the trip over to Columbus, Georgia for the CSU Invitational, hosted by Columbus State University. The event was originally scheduled for last weekend but the heavy rain that blanketed much of the southeastern United States forced the move to this Saturday and Sunday.

  • AUM is currently 2-1 in 2024 following a strong 4-2 victory over Edward Waters this past Wednesday.
  • The Warhawks will open Gulf south Conference play on Wednesday with a road trip to Montevallo. On Monday afternoon, AUM will head over to face Georgia College in a non-conference contest.
  • AUM has outscored its opponents 6-3 and is averaging 13 shots per game, with nearly half of this on goal (17).
  • Karla Guzman-Ortiz has a 1.00 goals-against average with 14 saves and a .824 save pct. - fourth in the GSC.
