MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 11 AUM men's soccer team remained unbeaten on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Trevecca Nazarene at the AUM Soccer Complex.
AUM won two games over the weekend as it improved to 4-0-3 on the season and 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play. TNU fell to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in league action.
AUM cracked the scoreboard first by taking advantage of a TNU misplay off a goal kick in its own penalty area in the fifth minute.
Adam Hanson stole the ball from a Trojan defender and then flicked it to
Benjamin Hoffman who shot it past TNU goalkeeper Adan Gonzalez just 4:57 into the contest. It was Hoffman's team leading third score of the season.
The Warhawks nearly got a second goal but
Logan Roach's penalty kick was saved by Gonzalez. He finished with six saves in the contest.
AUM did get the second score with 12:12 to play when
Nick Atkinson took a pass down the sideline, dribbled once and centered where
Carlo Russo headed it home just before Gonzalez could challenge the cross. It was Russo's first score of the year and Atkinson's second assist.
Alfie Rule stopped the only two shots that came his way and remained unscored upon over 315 minutes this season.
AUM held an 11-7 advantage in shots. The Warhawks limited the touches by the Trojans' leading scorer, Chris Douglas, holding the forward to just one shot. Douglas had four goals for TNU coming into the game.
