This Week In AUM Athletics: Sept. 30-Oct. 6

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Each week, the Auburn University at Montgomery Office of Athletics Communications previews the upcoming week with “This Week in AUM Athletics.” We've got four home events scheduled between women's volleyball and men's and women's soccer, while men's and women's tennis continues play at the ITA Fall Regional Championships and men's and women's Cross Country travels to Louisville, Ky. for the Louisville Classic.

THIS WEEK IN AUM ATHLETICS (SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 6)

  • The Warhawks opened up Gulf South Conference play with two home matches last week against West Alabama and Mississippi. 
  • This week features three more conference matchups, starting off hosting Valdosta State on Oct. 1 for Resident Rumble Night, and then hitting the road for two away games at Union and Christian Brothers. 
  • AUM is hitting .169 with 11.2 kills per set. The Warhawks are one of the better serving teams in the GSC, with 2.3 aces per set which places them second in the conference.
  • Maya Thompson is eighth in the GSC with 2.87 kills per set and eighth in blocks with 33 total and 0.85 per set.
  • Greta Corrente leads the GSC in service aces with 26 while Emily Brown is seventh overall with 18.

  • AUM is currently 2-4-1 after a pair of home games last week. They dropped two GSC games to start out winless in conference play.
  • The Warhawks have scored 11 goals for a 1.6 goals per game average. They are recording nine shots per game with 50 percent of those on goal.
  • Four different players have scored multiple goals on the year, with Laia Gonzalez leading the way with three scores and both game-winning goals. Michaelyn Manning tied Lauren Akemon and Gonzalez for the team lead in points with six.
  • Karla Guzman-Ortiz has started every minute in goal and sports a 1.93 goals-against average with 40 saves and a .755 save pct. - sixth in the GSC.

  • AUM is 4-0-3 on the season with five shutouts. The Warhawks are ranked 11th nationally. They will continue GSC play this week against Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama.
  • AUM is tied for the lead in goals-against average in Division 2 with a 0.29 avg. The five shutouts are tied for second in the country. The .913 save pct by goalkeepers Alfie Rule and William Blake is also second in the country.
  • Offensively, AUM averages 1.14 goals per game on 10 shots per game with 3.6 on goal per contest

  • The men's and women's tennis teams will continue play in Lakeland, Fla. at the ITA Fall South Region Championships, hosted by Florida Southern. The event is scheduled to start on Saturday and run through Wednesday.
