MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
Benjamin Hoffman dribbled through three defenders and unleashed a left-footed blast from outside the box to lift the AUM men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Saint Leo in the season opener for both teams on Thursday.
Hoffman's goal came just 8:48 into the contest and held up as the only score of the night. Nickolas Atkinson and
Adam Hanson assisted on the play.
AUM (1-0) finished with 11 shots to SLU's nine, with both teams putting one shot on goal.
Alfie Rule stopped the only shot he directly faced.
Hanson led the Warhawks with three shots. Anel Rojas had three shots and the lone attempt on goal for the Lions.
The Warhawks will return to play on Saturday when they face Tampa at the AUM Soccer Complex. The Spartans claimed a 2-1 win at West Florida on Thursday morning.
