GULF SHORES, Ala. – No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (1-0) secured the season opener victory against No. 9 Rogers state 9-0 in six innings.
The Warhawks exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to seal the win in run-rule fashion on Friday night at the Gulf Shores Invitational.
The first inning started with AUM on the board first after they scored a pair.
Chloe Derrick picked up an RBI that scored
Chloe Baynes, who reached base on a walk.
Lexi Love would then deliver another RBI that scored
Haley Ann Frank, who reached on a bunt single.
Chelisa Newsome got the win and threw six innings without allowing a run and just three hits to Rogers State. She also added three strikeouts to her total.
The Warhawks picked back up in the run column in the sixth inning with seven more runs.
Whitney Wells would add an RBI, along with Derrick who drove in two more and
Rebecca Komers' grand slam.
Komers' grand slam led the way for AUM at the plate as she was 2-4 with four RBIs on Friday night. Baynes also added two hits, two runs scored, two walks and a stolen base. Derrick would drive in three RBIs as well.
