MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's soccer team (5-3-3, GSC: 2-2-2) used three second-half goals, including a brace from
Sean O'Donnell, to defeat the Spring Hill Badgers (1-7-1, GSC: 1-5-1) on Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Benjamin Hoffmann pushed the Warhawks on the scoreboard first in the 35th minute of the match.
Hoffmann, who is tied for the team lead with six goals, used an assist created by
Sean Keane and
Noah Fernandes to give AUM a 1-0 lead amidst a barrage of shots in the opening half.
AUM's offense surged its way to 12 shots in the first half to just one for the Badgers, but Spring Hill was able to keep the Warhawks to just one goal.
Second Half
After the halftime intermission, AUM continued to apply heavy pressure to the Badgers' defense.
AUM broke through for the second goal of the contest with a goal from
Jonas Gunther in the 69th minute.
Robiston Lukau registered the assist on Gunther's goal, his team-high fourth of the season.
The Warhawks put the match out of reach in the 88th minute thanks to
Sean O'Donnell. O'Donnell scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart to help AUM add its third and fourth goals of the contest.
NOTABLES
- O'Donnell is also tied with Hoffmann for the team-lead in goals and is second on the team with 13 total points to Hoffmann's 14.
- The Warhawks took 19 shots in the second half, a season-high, enroute to out-shooting the Badgers 31-2 in the match. 13 of AUM's 31 shots were on goal.
- AUM goalkeeper Brock Marlow faced just two shots and needed one save to preserve the clean sheet for the defense, AUM's fourth shutout of the campaign.
