HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (2-16, GSC: 1-9) suffered a three-set defeat to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers (15-7, GSC: 7-3) in a Gulf South Conference match, Friday evening inside SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall.
The Warhawks saw nine digs and six kills from
Kendall McCain.
The Chargers were led by Zoe Smith's 12 kills and eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
AUM made things interesting midway through the opening set with a
Courtney Joseph kill and a UAH attack error to cut the deficit to 13-10, but a 7-2 run by the Chargers swell the lead to 20-12.
Alabama Huntsville took the set with kills from Zoe Smith and Cooper Garrett to win 25-16.
Set 2
AUM made it a 5-3 score early on an
Anyaliz Rodriguez, UAH increased the lead to 12-7 after Mary Grace Bundrant and Emily Redman had back-to-back spikes.
From there, the Chargers used a 10-1 run to improve the lead to 22-8 en route to a 25-10 victory.
Set 3
In the third, UAH got out to leads of 8-1 and 10-2.
Later, the Warhawks strung together five straight points after five straight attack errors to cut the deficit to 17-12, but the Chargers finished on a 4-1 run to win the match and earn the sweep.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks return home for a three-match home stand, starting with Valdosta State on Tuesday night. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside the AUM Athletics Complex.
