MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (3-19, GSC: 2-12) suffered a five-set loss to Christian Brothers University (10-16, 5-10), Friday night from Canale Arena.
AUM saw
Kendall McCain with a double-double, totaling 19 kills and 10 digs, while
Anyaliz Rodriguez added 14 kills and eight digs.
Carly Cooper totaled a match-high four aces and added 11 digs, while
Kiara Vega posted 22 assists and 13 digs.
Ella Schumacher led CBU with 14 kills, while Carleiny Morillo had a match-high 18 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
After the Lady Bucs won the first two points in the set, the Warhawks used a 9-2 run, including three straight points to lead 9-4. After a service error by Addison Waggoner,
Kendall McCain and
Anyaliz Rodriguez had back-to-back spikes to lead 9-4.
CBU did get back into the match and evened the set at 16 points each on a service ace by Stella Lukaszuk.
After Christian Brothers tied it again at 20, five straight points by AUM gave them the win, including three aces by
Carly Cooper to seal the set.
Set 2
Tied at five early, a 9-3 run by the Lady Bucs swelled the lead to 14-8.
Despite the Warhawks cutting the deficit to 20-17 on a Rodriguez kill and an Ella Schumacher attack error and later tying it at 23 with back-to-back spikes by McCain, the Lady Bucs picked up the final two points to win the frame, 25-23.
Set 3
Christian Brothers used a 9-1 run to roll to a 25-14 win to lead the match 2-1. The Lady Bucs totaled 11 kills in the set with no attack errors to earn the win.
Set 4
The Warhawks used an 8-2 run after two kills by
Jaslyn Montgomery to take a 10-4 lead early in the fourth set.
CBU did cut the deficit to 17-14 midway through, but AUM rallied from there. Rodriguez's kill earned the Warhawks the side out and finished the set with an 8-2 run to force a deciding fifth set.
Set 5
Christian Brothers posted a 7-3 run to lead 8-5 at the midway point of the fifth set.
The Warhawks were able to make it a 12-10 score with a McCain kill, but the Lady Bucs won three of the final four points to take the match, 15-11.
