Joe Brooks Named Interim Head Coach for AUM MBB Ahead of 2025-26 Season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery Director of Athletics Erik Maas has named Joe Brooks Interim Head Coach for AUM men's basketball, ahead of the 2025-26 season.

"Coach Brooks has shown dedication to AUM since joining the Warhawk family this fall," said Maas. "I have full confidence in him to lead the program through this interim period."

Brooks moves into the interim head coach role after serving as an assistant coach for the program since the beginning of the fall semester. 

"It's a privilege to lead this program," said Brooks. "My focus is on supporting our players, fostering their growth as men, and ensuring we remain competitive in everything we do."

Before joining the Warhawks' coaching staff, Brooks compiled a winning resume as an assistant coach at a trio of junior colleges.  
 
Most recently, Brooks spent two seasons at Dalton State College, helping lead the program to a 40-19 overall record. His two-year stint with the Roadrunners was preceded by a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Georgia Highlands. In the 2022-23 season, Brooks and the Chargers finished 22-9 overall and earned a GCAA Regular Season Championship.
 
Brooks' coaching career began in 2017 as he joined the Snead State men's basketball staff. Over the course of five seasons, Brooks helped the Parsons to a 102-44 record, four playoff appearances, and two championships.
 
AUM opens the 2025-26 season on Friday, Nov. 14 against Spring Hill at 6 p.m., followed by Tuskegee on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m.in Montgomery, Ala., as part of the GSC/SIAC Crossover Challenge, hosted by the Warhawks.
 
"This group has shown up ready to work every day. They love competing, and they take pride in doing things the right way," said Brooks. "I'm truly excited for the opportunity they have in front of them."
