MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (3-25, GSC: 2-18) saw the 2025 season come to a close as the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers (23-6, GSC: 15-5) picked up a 3-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon from the AUM Athletics Complex.
One of those seniors,
Kendall McCain, surpassed her 1,000th career kill in the third set, as she recorded 16 kills on the afternoon and added 17 digs for her 10th double-double of the year.
Another senior,
Anyaliz Rodriguez, led all attackers with 18 kills and also had 17 digs for double-double number three on the season.
Senior
Carly Cooper had 13 digs, and
Addi Vinson assisted on 21 of the team's 41 kills with 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Tied at 12 midway through the opening frame, the Chargers used a 7-2 run on two kills by Carlee Lowry to improve the lead to 19-14.
AUM used kills from
Addi Vinson and
Anyaliz Rodriguez plus an assisted block from Rodriguez and
Courtney Joseph to make it a 19-17 deficit, but UAH won the next three points that helped them to take the opener, 25-21.
Set 2
Even at six points apiece after a UAH service error and a Rodriguez kill, the Chargers won the next six points and a 9-3 run to make it a 15-9 score.
Trailing 20-11, the Warhawks saw five kills by
Kendall McCain to spark a 10-4 run, but a block by the Chargers on the final point was enough for the 2-0 match lead with a 25-21 win.
Set 3
Just like the first two frames, both teams were extremely competitive. Trailing 11-10, a quick 3-0 run by UAH gave them its first two-point lead of the set, 13-11, thanks to two kills from Zoe Smith and a Mary Grace Bundrant spike.
AUM eventually came back and tied the set up at 17 with a
Taylor Lewis ace, and thanks to a 4-0 run, the Warhawks had the 19-17 lead.
Unfortunately, the Chargers answered with a 5-0 run of their own to lead 22-19. That would be enough for UAH to earn the sweep over AUM with a 25-21 result in the third.
