Volleyball Falls on the Road to Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (3-22, GSC: 2-15) dropped a Gulf South Conference match to the Lee University Flames (15-12, GSC: 11-7) in straight sets, Friday night from the Paul Dana Walker Arena.

AUM saw Addi Vinson with 14 assists and seven digs, while Kendall McCain contributed 11 kills.

Lee, who posted a 70% side out percentage on the night, was led by Jordyn Butler's 10 kills, while Izzy Denton added 19 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1

After AUM won the first point on a Kendall McCain kill, Lee put together a 13-4 run.

Kills from Jaslyn Montgomery and Anyaliz Rodriguez were not enough for the Flames to storm out to a 25-9 opening set victory.

Set 2
After a slow start, AUM started picking up the pace. Trailing 5-4 early, an Addi Vinson kill and a Montgomery and Emma Claire long block sparked a 4-2 run to lead 8-7.

Later, tied at 10, AUM won five of the next seven points to lead 15-12.

However, the Flames used an 8-1 run to flip a 17-14 deficit into a 22-18 lead thanks to two kills from Esthefany Rabit and an ace from Sydney Sharpe.

AUM attempted to rally with kills by Rodriguez and McCain, but a Jordyn Butler spike gave Lee the 2-0 match lead after taking set two, 25-21.

Set 3
Similar to the second frame, AUM took an early 5-3 lead after three straight points on kills from Emily Brown and McCain and a solo block by Montgomery.

However, Lee flipped the script again with a 7-1 run to lead 10-6.

The Warhawks made it a 15-14 deficit after winning four straight points, including back-to-back aces by Rodriguez. Lee would respond with a 5-1 run to maintain the lead 20-15.

Despite a couple of kills late from Salome Dejesus De La Torres, the Flames earned the Friday night sweep with the 25-20 set three win.

Up Next
The weekend trip concludes in Nashville on Saturday, when the Warhawks face off with the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene.
