Golden Goal Sends Warhawks Past Falcons in GSC Quarterfinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The No. 3 seeded Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's soccer team (10-4-3, GSC: 6-3-2) used a golden goal from Mikayil Bacar Said in the 100th minute to take down the No. 6 seeded University of Montevallo Falcons (5-5-7, GSC: 4-2-5) on Sunday evening in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals at the AUM Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
It was the Falcons with the first flurry of shots in the match as four attempts at goal sailed wide in the first 20 minutes of the match for Montevallo.

The Warhawks took the next five shots in the match, but Montevallo goalkeeper Andre Etcheverry made a pair of saves to maintain a scoreless contest at the halftime intermission.

Second Half
Chances came in a flurry in the second half, in a similar fashion to the first. Noah Fernandes and Robiston Lukau each had shots saved by Etcheverry in the opening minutes of the second half.

A key Marlow save of a Seth Acton shot in the 66th minute helped keep the match scoreless as both sides searched for a goal.

The Warhawks continued to put pressure on the Falcons, with Bacar Said, Lukau, and Jamie Ward forcing Etcheverry to make saves to keep the home team off the scoreboard as a scoreless match entered overtime.

Marlow saved the match in the 96th minute with back-to-back saves, and the Warhawk finally broke through in the 100th minute.

Bacar Said, off an assist from Noah Fernandes, notched his first goal of the season to lift the Warhawks into the win column and advance to the GSC semifinals.
