MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's basketball team (0-6) fell 70-41 to the NCAA Division I Alabama State University Hornets (2-5) on Monday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
The Warhawks were again plagued by a cold-shooting first quarter that saw Alabama State take a 16-6 lead after the opening period.
Tamora Brown made the game's first basket, but the Warhawks went just 2-for-11 from the field as the Hornets used a 10-2 run to build the early double-digit lead.
Second Quarter
A strong second quarter by the Hornets proved to be insurmountable for AUM. The hornets made nine field goals in the quarter and shot 60 percent from the floor enroute to a 38-18 halftime advantage.
Third Quarter
The Hornets took their largest lead of the contest with 3:40 remaining in the third quarter on a pair of free throws by Taylor Smith to increase the lead to 55-22 before the Warhawks closed the quarter on a 12-0 run.
A pair of baskets from
Samya Brooks and five points, including a three-point basket, from
Gabby Litvak, sparked AUM's best run of the contest.
Fourth Quarter
Alabama State held AUM to just two field goals in the fourth quarter to close out its second win of the season.
NOTABLES
- Brooks and Jaden Toney each scored 12 points for the orange and black, while Brown scored eight points and grabbed a season-best 10 rebounds. Litvak added five points and six rebounds.
- Alanah Pooler scored 12 points to pace the Hornets. Charlese McLendon joined her in double figures with 11.
- Ten different Hornets made at least one field goal, while 12 different players scored at least one point.
- The Hornets' bench held a 50-9 advantage in the contest, and Alabama State scored 28 points off 33 AUM turnovers.
- Alabama State also outscored AUM 42-16 in the paint.
