Warhawks Roll Past Bucs Away from Home

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's basketball team (1-11, GSC: 1-5) earned their first win of the season as they took down the Christian Brothers Buccaneers (3-8, GSC: 0-5) 53-44 on Saturday afternoon from Memphis, Tenn.

COACH PHILLIPS' COMMENTS
"I'm proud of the effort our team gave today. We competed for all 40 minutes and did a good job defensively, especially on the road."

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
An even start saw six points from both sides over the opening five minutes of action. Ameyah Gray set the tone with a three pointer while Nevaeh Small added a layup and a free throw. Layups from Keziah Seay and Tamora Brown pulled the Warhawks ahead 10-6.

Over the final two minutes, AUM outscored CBU 7-2 behind buckets from Shelby McAllister, Brown, and Grey. This allowed the Warhawks to secure a 17-10 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Second Quarter
McAllister and Brown each hit jumpers early in the second quarter, giving AUM their largest lead of the day at 21-10.

The Bucs were able to respond with an 11-2 rally that cut AUM's advantage down to 23-21. With just over a minute to go before halftime, Small grabbed a steal and ended the play with a fastbreak layup.

Christian Brothers added a pair of free throws before the clock expired, however, the Warhawks would go to the locker room while leading 25-23.

Third Quarter
The Bucs were able to tie up the score at 27-27 not long after the start of the second half. A few scoreless minutes and one point from each side sent the game to a media timeout at 28-28.

The tied score was pushed to 30 points apiece before the Warhawks picked up the pace over the last two minutes of the third quarter.

10 of the last 12 points went to the Warhawks with five points coming from Brown and a three-point dagger from Andie Flatgard would be the last shot of the period, giving AUM a 40-32 lead.

Fourth Quarter
The Warhawks maintained their eight-point advantage through the first five minutes of the final quarter at 45-37. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch, but AUM closed out the game with a 53-44 road victory.
