MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 2 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (7-2, 2-0) swept No. 9 Trevecca Nazarene (9-2, 0-2) on Friday.
In game one the Warhawks battled back from a one-run defecit in the first inning and won 5-2
Chelisa Newsome tossed a five-inning, no-hitter in game two for AUM. The 18
th no-hitter in AUM Softball's program history.
Game 1 – AUM 5, Trevecca Nazarene 1
Trevecca jumped ahead early with a run in the top of the first inning on a solo homerun. The only run of the day for the Trojans came very early on in game one.
AUM was held scoreless until they broke through and scored two in the third.
Chloe Baynes would single and come in to score on a RBI single from
Haley Ann Frank.
Lexi Love also delivered another RBI on a triple that scored Frank.
The Warhawks added another in the fourth with
Meredith Kellum's single up the middle to score
Rebecca Komers who reached on a triple. Love would add another RBI in the fifth inning to increase the lead.
AUM was able to hold Trevecca scoreless for the remainder of the game and pick up the 5-1 win.
Reese Cauley improved to 4-0 in the circle and tossed a complete game with just one run allowed on four hits with six strikeouts.
At the plate, The Warhawks totaled eight hits led by Baynes with two and Frank with two. Love added a pair of RBI along with from Komers and Kellum.
Game 2 – AUM 8, Trevecca Nazarene 0
The Warhawks outhit the Trojans in game two 10-0 with Newsome tossing the 18
th no-hitter in program history. She would improve to 3-1 on the season in the circle.
AUM scored in each inning of the games besides the first. One in the second inning, a pair in the third and fourth innings and three in the fifth to seal the run-rule victory.
Frank was 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored, while
Faith Wheat added a pair of RBI as well. Kellum, a freshman also added two hits with a RBI and a run scored.
