AMERICUS, Ga. – No. 2 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (12-3, 5-1) won its midweek doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern (6-7, 0-0) on Tuesday afternoon.
AUM scored four in the sixth inning in route to the game one victory of Tuesday's doubleheader.
In game two, Cehlisa Newsome tossed a complete game and the balanced offensive attach gave AUM its second win over GSW.
Game 1 – AUM 7, GSW 5
Sydni Free started in the circle for AUM and made her second start of the season. The Lady Hurricanes struck first with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second inning.
The Warhawks answered quickly in the third inning after
Jasmine Sneed came in to score on a wild pitch. GSW threatened to regain the lead in the bottom half of the inning but left two runners stranded on-base.
AUM jumped ahead 3-1 and scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Lexi Love came around to score on a wild pitch and
Meredith Kellum delivered an RBI single that scored Lexi Bullock.
GSW responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth to even the game at three.
Reese Cauley took over for Free in the bottom of the fifth inning. Free tossed four innings, allowed three runs on five hits with one strikeout.
The Lady Hurricanes scored two runs in the fifth inning and took a 5-3 lead. The Warhawks once again responded and took the lead back in the sixth inning with four runs. Bullock, Kellum and
Whitney Wells all picked up RBI in the inning.
AUM would hold on to 7-5 and Cauley improved to 7-1 and threw three innings, allowed two runs with six strikeouts.
Game 2 – AUM 5, GSW 3
AUM jumped ahead early with a run in the first, Love doubled and picked up an early RBI that scored
Haley Ann Frank. Frank added to the lead and drove in an RBI in the third to make it 2-0.
In the fourth, AUM stretched the lead out to five and scored three more. The Lady Hurricanes eventually got on the board with two-run homerun.
Newsome started in the circle for AUM and tossed seven innings to get the win. She goes to 5-1 in the circle and allowed just two runs on four hit and six strikeouts.
A scoreless fifth, sixth and seventh innings gave AUM its second win of the day at GSW. The Warhawks improved to 12-3 on the year ahead of a conference matchup with Lee this weekend at AUM Softball Complex.
AUM saw a RBI in game two from five different starters, four of which hate multi-hit games. Bullock, Wells,
Chloe Baynes and Love all contributed an RBI and collected a pair of hits.
