DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (5-2) swept the two-game slate on Saturday with wins over Florida Tech and Embry-Riddle.
In game one the Warhawks battled back from being down a run to manufacture four runs in the fifth inning and get the win.
AUM rallied back in game two to get the 6-5 win over Embry-Riddle after they scored four, sixth inning runs.
Lexi Love's two-run homerun was the difference as she totaled four RBIS in game two on Saturday.
Game 1 – AUM 6, Newberry 3
Newberry would score first and plate a run in the third inning to take the lead. AUM responded with two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning. Newberry's four fielding errors allowed for AUM to get back in the game.
In the fifth,
Lexi Love drove in
Haley Ann Frank on a RBI double for the first run of the inning. The Warhawks would then score three unearned runs with
Lexie Bullock and
Chloe Derrick contributing RBIS.
AUM held Newberry scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings to get the 6-3 win in game one on Saturday.
Chelisa Newsome got the win in the circle and went five innings with six strikeouts. Offensively, Love added three hits, a RBI and two runs scored. Bullock would add an RBI with two stolen bases.
Game 2 – AUM 6, Embry-Riddle 5
Embry-Riddle jumped ahead on AUM early once again, with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. AUM had an opportunity to get on the board in the second but stranded three baserunners to keep the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Embry-Riddle increased the lead to five after they added three more runs in the third inning and AUM went on to strand a pair of runners in the bottom half of the inning.
The Warhawks finally broke through in the fourth inning on a RBI single from Love that scored
Bella Santos and
Chloe Baynes.
AUM rallied in the sixth inning and scored four runs to take the lead 6-5. Love delivered a two-run homerun to put the Warhawks ahead late. The senior from Tallassee's fourth RBI of the game forced the Eagles to make a change in the circle.
Cauley returned in the seventh inning and shutout the Eagles to secure her third win on the year. She tossed a complete game and recorded four strikeouts.
Love led the way offensively with four RBIS and a two-run homerun. As a team AUM stole six bases and Frank with three of those.
