Softball Sweeps CBU In Friday Doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (17-6, 10-4) won both games of Friday's doubleheader against Christian Brothers (10-15, 2-12).

Freshman Jasmine Sneed walked off game one with a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

Avery Dickerson tossed a complete game shutout in the second game to give AUM the 2-0 victory.

Game 1 – AUM 3, CBU 2

The Lady Bucs took the first lead of the series and scored a pair in the top of the second inning. Chelisa Newsome would then strikeout five consecutive CBU batters.

AUM answered with a run in the third inning to cut the lead in half. Chloe Derrick led off the inning with a single and came in to score on a RBI single from Lexi Love

Love leads the team in RBI on the year with 20 so far and tied for the ninth most in the GSC.

Newsome held the Lady Bucs at bay with just the two early runs to allow the Warhawks comeback effort. She tossed seven innings in game one and totaled nine strikeouts, a team-high for AUM this year.

In the seventh, AUM's Arianna Machado started the inning with a walk and came around to score on a single from Derrick to tie the game at two. Sneed then scorched a line-drive up the middle to drive in Whitney Wells, who pinch ran for Derrick at second base for the game-winning run.

Offensively, the Warhawks saw RBI from Love, Derrick and Sneed. Derrick collected a two-hit game with a run scored.

Game 2 – AUM 2, CBU 0

AUM jumped ahead early in the second game with a run in the first inning. Once again, it was Love who delivered the RBI that scored Chloe Baynes. Baynes now has 16 runs scored for AUM so far on the year from the leadoff spot.

Dickerson was dominant in the circle for the Warhawks and held the Lady Bucs scoreless in her seven-inning performance. She allowed just four hits with five strikeouts.
In the top of the third, CBU threatened with the base loaded but they were unable to break through as Dickerson recorded two straight outs to get out of the inning.

Rebecca Komers double in the fourth inning added to the Warhawks lead and extended it out 2-0. Lexie Bullock walked to start the inning and came in to score on Komers' 16th RBI of the year.

Dickerson would then retire eight straight CBU batters to give AUM its second win of the day.
