MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (18-6, 11-4) won in walk off fashion again in Saturday's series finale to sweep Christian Brothers (10-16, 2-13).
Arianna Machado drove in
Haley Ann Frank for the winning run to give AUM the 5-4 win and complete the sweep over CBU. Machado led AUM offensively with a pair RBI and hits.
Faith Wheat and
Meredith Kellum also contributed a pair of hits with an RBI as well.
The Lady Bucs jumped ahead and scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a double.
AUM responded with three runs of their own in the second inning to take the lead. Machado's big day started with her driving in the first RBI on the day for the Warhawks and coming in to score on a single from Wheat that tied the game. AUM would take the lead on a fielding error by the Lady Bucs defense.
Today's series finale featured eight combined errors for both teams.
CBU answered quickly and regained the lead in the third inning after they scored two and went up 4-3.
Sydni Free started in the circle and threw four innings for AUM before
Chelisa Newsome took over. Free tossed three strikeouts and allowed six hits in her start in the series finale. In Newsome's three innings she held the Lady Bucs scoreless and without a hit. She also totaled six strikeouts.
Freshman, Kellum evened the game with an RBI in the fifth that scored
Haley Ann Frank.
In the seventh, back-to-back CBU defensive errors gave AUM a pair of baserunners with nobody out. Machado then delivered the game-winning single that scored Frank to give the Warhawks the 5-4 win that completed the three-game sweep over The Lady Bucs.
