Softball sweeps Saturday's Doubleheader at Alabama Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (20-7, 13-5) swept Alabama Huntsville (16-16, 9-9) in Saturday's doubleheader to take the series.  

AUM responded to the series opener loss and evened the series with the 8-0 victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.

Reese Cauley controlled game two of Saturday's doubleheader in the circle and delivered a two-run homerun to get the 8-0 win. 

The Warhawks stand at fourth place in the GSC standings after this weekend's series and No. 5 in the latest NFCA top-25 national rankings. 

Game 1 – AUM 8, UAH 0

Chelisa Newsome was dominant in the circle for the Warhawks after she tossed six scoreless innings for her ninth win on the season. Her nine wins are the seventh most in the GSC so far on the year. 

Offensively, AUM got hits from eight of the starters with four of those having multiple hits. Meredith Kellum and Lexie Bullock drove in a pair of runs to lead the way. 

The Warhawks came out swinging with three runs in the top of the first inning. Bullock delivered an RBI double, and Arianna Machado stayed hot at the plate with an RBI single. 

In the third, AUM added a pair of runs to extend the lead out to five. Rebecca Komers increased her RBI total on the year up to 17, while Jasmine Sneed also drove in a run.

Another RBI for Bullock in the fourth inning, her second of the game, stretched the lead out to six for AUM before they would put the run-rule in affect with a pair in the sixth inning as well. The Chargers were held scoreless by Newsome in the circle to give AUM a run-rule response in game two fo the series. 

Game 2 – AUM 0, UAH 0

Cauley started in the circle for AUM and held the Chargers scoreless. She hit her third homerun of the season while also starting in the circle.  

The Warhawks started the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning. Cauley hit her third homerun of the season that scored two. 

Lexi Love started the sixth inning with her second triple of the season. She would come in to score on a RBI sacrifice bunt from Kellum. The inning didn't stop there as Machado delivered another triple with two outs. Faith Wheat would score Machado on a single to stretch the Warhawks lead out to four headed into the seventh inning of the series finale. 

In the seventh, Sneed leadoff with a single for her second hit of the game as the Warhawks would add four runs in the inning to make it an 8-0 advantage, once again. AUM would hold the Chargers scoreless for the second straight game to take the series.

AUM will host Columbus State for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday before this weekend's GSC series at West Florida.
