PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (23-8, 14-6) split two extra-inning games at West Florida (24-9, 15-5) on Friday.
The series opener was a pitchers' duel that saw a 2-1, extra inning victory for UWF with the eighth inning winning run.
AUM responded and won the second game in extra innings after scoring three in the eighth to even the series.
Game 1 – AUM 2, UWF 1
A slow start to the series opener that didn't see a run scored until the sixth inning. The Warhawks took a one-run advantage on a RBI double from
Lexi Love. UWF would respond with a run of their own in the sixth and send the game into extras where they were able to scratch a run in the eighth to take the series opener 2-1.
The Argos led off the fourth inning with a single from Gianna Guerriero, who leads the GSC in stolen bases at 27. After back-to-back base-hits for UWF, they would leave both on-base as the conference leader in ERA,
Chelisa Newsome was able to get out of the inning. Newsome started for AUM in the circle for the 12
th time this year.
She tossed 7.2 innings and allowed two runs and seven hits.
The Warhawks had just one hit headed into the sixth before
Haley Ann Frank Singled and was drove in on a RBI double from
Lexi Love.
UWF evened the game in the bottom of the sixth with a run on a well-executed sacrifice bunt.
In the seventh, both teams were held scoreless to send the game into extras in the series opener.
UWF was able to score the winning run with a pair of base-hits in the eighth inning.
Frank led the way offensively for AUM with three hits, a stolen base and a run scored in game one on Friday, while Love added a RBI double.
Game 2 – AUM 4, UWF 1
The Warhawks captured an early lead in the second game of Friday's doubleheader with a run in the second inning.
Faith Wheat picked up the RBI that drove in
Meredith Kellum after a defensive error by UWF.
The Argos tied the game at one in the fourth inning with an unearned run on a RBI double.
The remaining three innings were scoreless for both teams to send the game into extras once again.
Rebecca Komers started the eighth with a double to left center but was later thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice play.
Chloe Baynes then extended the inning with a single and allowed Love to pick up an RBI to put AUM on top 2-1. AUM wasn't done there,
Lexie Bullock would drive in a pair on a double to stretch the lead to three.
Reese Cauley started in the circle for AUM and closed out the Argos in the eighth to even the series at one headed into tomorrow's finale. Cauley went the distance and tossed eight innings.
Offensively, AUM's bats came alive in the second game of the series with seven hits as a team. Love and Bullock both had two while also driving in the biggest runs of the game in the eighth inning.

AUM will return tomorrow for the series finale against West Florida at 10 a.m. CT. The game time has been adjusted due to potential weather in the area.
