JACKSON, Tenn. - The AUM baseball team suffered two losses to Union at Fesmire Field on Saturday. The Bulldogs secured the early game 16-3 before winning the final game 3-2 with a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
AUM dropped to 11-30 overall and 8-19 in Gulf South Conference play.
GAME ONE - Union 16, AUM 2
In the first game, Union scored three runs in the first inning on a fielding error, a sacrifice fly and a single to left field.
Riley Orr got a run back for the Warhawks, opening the second frame with his sixth home run of the season. They pulled to within 3-2 in the fourth when
Kyle Hipp reached first on a error and moved to second on the same play, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
But the Bulldogs plated eight in the bottom of the fourth, extending their lead to 11-2. They added two in the fifth and three in the sixth to close out the game, 16-2.
GAME TWO - Union 3, AUM 2
AUM struck first in the second inning when
Riley Orr led off with a double and later scored from third on a
Will Passeau single through the left side. Union responded in the home-half of the second, plating on a pair for a 2-1 lead.
The Warhawks knotted it at 2-2 in the fifth when
Ryan Revera scored from second on a 2-out
Landon Baeder single. Bader had two of AUM's five hits.
AUM appeared ready to take the lead in the seventh when Passeau reached on an error, moved to second on the same play and then was sacrificed over. But the threat was halted with two strikeouts to end the inning.
In the Bulldogs' half of the seventh, they put the first two batters on with back-to-back singles. After a force out at third, they executed a double steal to put the game-winning run at third where Colby Davis singled to third to drive in the final run.
Lucas Baggett (1-4) was credited with the loss after working one third of an inning in the seventh.
Clay Slagle left after six innings with four strikeouts while scattering four hits.
The Warhawks are scheduled to play at Albany (Ga.) State on Wednesday before a road series at No. 12 Delta State on Friday and Saturday.
