No. 6 Softball sweeps series at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (32-9, 23-7) won at Delta State (12-30, 5-23) on Friday to get the series sweep.

The Warhawks racked up 10 or more hits in each game of the series this weekend. In the series finale, a seventh inning comeback put AUM over Delta State.

AUM is under consideration for the NCAA South Region Tournament. The first rankings came out on Wednesday, April 16 and the second batch of ranking will release on Wednesday, April 23.

AUM jumped ahead early and took a three-run lead over Delta State on Friday in the first inning. Chloe Baynes, Haley Ann Frank both came in to score on RBI's from Rebecca Komers and Lexi Love. Komers would also score a run on a RBI sacrifice fly from Lexie Bullock

The Lady Statesman responded with a run of their own in the first inning. Avery Dickerson started on the mound for AUM in just her sixth appearance this season and tossed 3.1 innings.

The Warhawks added another run in the second inning to make it 4-1 on a RBI single from Baynes. She was 4-4 at the plate in the series finale.

In the third inning, Delta State scored two and cut the deficit to just one run. AUM then added two more runs in the fourth inning on RBI's from Frank and Komers.

The Lady Statesman weren't going away in Friday's game as they added two more runs in the fourth inning to make it a 6-5 AUM lead, with three innings to play. They went on to take the lead after adding two more in the fifth inning as well.

Sydni Free took over on the Mound for AUM and threw an inning before Chelisa Newsome came in and got her 14th win on the year.

The Warhawks then tied the game in the sixth inning with a run and won the game with two more in the seventh inning. Baynes would force a throwing error by Delta State on a stolen base attempt to come around and score and tie the game. Lexie Bullock's double in the seventh gave AUM the lead and Kellum's RBI sacrifice fly added an extra insurance run.

Newsome came in for 2.2 innings of work in the series finale and held Delta State scoreless to give AUM the sweep with just one regular season series remaining.
