AUM Drops Two 3-run Games At No. 12 Delta State

The Warhawks will conclude their season at home next weekend against Montevallo

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The AUM baseball team dropped a pair of tight games with No. 12 Delta State at Ferriss Field on Saturday. The Statesmen claimed a 6-3 win the game one and 10-7 in game two.

AUM (12-32, 9-21 Gulf South) had a pair of home runs in the first contest before pounding out four extra-base hits on its way to a 11-10 edge in base hits in the evening game.

Kyle Hipp and Cole Strachan each reached base four times, while Riley Orr, Tyrese Rooks and Brendan York all reached three times on the day.

Game One – DSU 6, AUM 3
Seven different Warhawks had a hit with Orr and Hipp going deep with solo home runs. Both players are tied for the team lead with seven this season.

DSU held a 3-1 edge going into the eighth inning where it plated three more for a 6-1 lead. AUM started a rally in the ninth, scoring one on Hipp's homer and another on a Ryan Revera ground ball but left the pinch runner stranded with the tying run on deck.

Clay Slagle (2-2) allowed three runs and scattered eight hits over 5.1 innings for the loss. Dylan Farley (7-3) got the win despite allowing five hits, walking five and hitting two as he fanned four and benefitted from two double plays.

Game Two – DSU 10, AUM 7
The afternoon contest went back and forth with four lead changes in the first four innings before the Statesmen put up five in the fifth to go ahead 10-5.

The Warhawks got an RBI double from Rooks and a sac fly from Orr but again, left a runner on base. They left seven on in the game.

Grant Hickman (1-1) ended up receiving the loss after allowing the DSU go-ahead run in the fifth.

AUM will conclude the season next weekend against Montevallo on Friday and Saturday at QV Lowe Field. Friday's game will begin at 5 p.m. and Saturday's Senior Day doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
