Komers wins it in the eighth against Valdosta State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (26-9, 17-7) beat Valdosta State (23-15, 16-7) in the series finale 2-1 on a walk-off by Rebecca Komers in the eighth inning.

Chloe Baynes singled to start the bottom of the eighth inning and stole second to get into scoring position for Komers. Then, a line drive to left center scored Baynes and gave the Warhawks the win on Saturday.

AUM now holds a game over Valdosta State in the conference standings which could prove to be critical nearing the end of the regular season.

The finale featured five scoreless innings before both teams broke through in the sixth. A pitcher's duel was expected as two of the top arms in the league started in the circle.

For AUM, Reese Cauley got the nod and picked up her 13th win on the year. Claire Maulding started for the Blazers and fell to 13-3 on the year.

Valdosta State scored the first run of the game after a pair of singles put them in place for a RBI sac fly. AUM responded quickly to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Komers singled and was driven in by Cauley.

The game then was sent into extras where Komers was the hero for the Warhawks. The Junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Was 3-4 at the plate with an RBI, stolen base and run scored. Baynes also added three hits to add to her impressive weekend overall.
