This Week in AUM Athletics: May. 5-11

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Each week, the Auburn University at Montgomery Office of Athletics Communications previews the upcoming week with “This Week in AUM Athletics.” AUM Softball will open play in the double-elimination regional on Thursday, May 8 against West Florida (37-15) at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium. The Warhawks received an at-large berth and will be the No. 3 seed in the South region. The Warhawks will travel to Saint Leo, Florida where No. 2 seed Saint Leo will host one of the 4-team regionals. The other teams selected to play at that site are No. 6 seed West Florida and No. 7 seed Mississippi College.

  • AUM softball is 37-11 on the year and received an at-large berth and will be the No. 3 seed in the South region.
  • The Warhawks clinched the programs third regular season conference title in the last five years.
  • Ranked No. 7 nationally in NFCA top-25 Coaches Poll.
  • The Warhawks were selected third in the GSC preseason poll with four first-place votes.
  • AUM will open play in the double-elimination regional on Thursday, May 8 against West Florida (37-15) at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium.
  • Chelsea Newsome tossed the 18th no-hitter in program history against Trevecca.
  • Three Warhawks were named to the Gulf South Conference All-Tournament Team, Arianna Machado, Chloe Baynes and Reese Cauley. Baynes and Cauley also earned First-Team All-GSC honors to go along with Chelisa Newsome. Haley Ann Frankand Rebecca Komers earned Second-Team All-GSC honors.
  • Head Coach, Scottie Wilkes Laney was named the Gulf South Conference Head Coach of the Year. 
  • AUM is making its fifth-consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and has compiled a 16-11 record. The Warhawks are 10-6 in regional play, 4-1 in super regional action and 2-4 in the NCAA Championship finals.
  • The Warhawks have one of the top pitching staffs in the country, ranking sixth nationally with a 1.75 team earned run average. AUM has a .293 batting average and is eighth nationally with 2.91 stolen bases per game. The team's .967 fielding percentage is 52nd.
