AUM Sweeps Tuskegee to Open Home Schedule

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Volleyball team (1-7) secured its first win of the 2025 season with a sweep of the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers (3-1), Friday night inside the AUM Athletics Complex.

AUM dominated the match with 36 kills to Tuskegee's 17. Kendall McCain posted eight kills to lead the Warhawks.

Taylor Lewis recorded a double-double, posting 20 of the team's 66 digs on the night, while adding 10 assists and three aces. Salome Dejesus De La Torres totaled 10 points with seven kills and three aces.

COACH CASE'S COMMENTS
"It was incredibly exciting to play in front of our amazing fans tonight. They brought so much energy and passion, and it fueled our performance. We played with much higher energy and effort, and that was definitely due to their support. On top of that, I was really impressed with Tuskegee's defense. They made it tough for our hitters to score points, so to come away with a win against such a formidable team is a great sign for our team moving forward."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
It was Tuskegee that had a 10-8 lead early in the set after three attack errors by AUM, but the Warhawks responded with a 6-1 run of their own to lead 14-10.

The Golden Tigers cut the deficit to one point twice from there, but a service ace by De La Torres and a kill by McCain gave the Warhawks a 19-14 lead en route to a 25-17 win.

Set 2
Tuskegee had control for most of set two, leading 16-12 midway through after a Najwa Williams kill, but three straight kills by the black and orange, including two from McCain, tied it up at 16.

The Golden Tigers had a 19-18 lead on a Kayla Coleman kill, but the Warhawks scored the final seven points, as Kiara Vega secured back-to-back aces to help the home team win 25-19 and take the commanding 2-0 match lead.

Set 3
Ahead 14-13, the Warhawks used another run, winning six straight points to lead 20-13. During the run, Emma Claire Long recorded a kill, and Addi Vinson had a service ace.

TU made it a 22-18 deficit, but kills from De La Torres and Anyaliza Rodriguez sealed the sweep for the Warkhawks with a 25-19 victory.
