Warhawks Drop Hard-Fought Battle against West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla.The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's basketball team (2-14, GSC: 2-8) dropped a hard-fought contest to the University of West Florida (12-5; GSC: 7-3), 72–65, on Thursday night at the UWF Field House.  

First Quarter
 
The game opened with a two-point jumper from Tamora Brown, followed by a three-pointer from Ameyah Gray off an assist from Keziah Seay. Brown added four more points in the opening frame, while Samya Brooks and Nevaeh Small chipped in offensively. Shelby McAllister closed the quarter with a three-pointer. AUM matched West Florida on the glass with 10 rebounds and finished the period with 10 points in the paint. The Warhawks trailed 23-15 after one. 
 
Second Quarter 
The second quarter opened with defensive pressure from Gray, who came up with a steal that led to a layup from Samya Brooks. Brooks stayed hot, adding two more points off an assist from Tamora Brown for her first helper of the night. Gray followed with a layup of her own to pull AUM within four at 25-21. Brooks later went to the free-throw line, converting both attempts for her seventh and eighth points of the contest. 
 
The Warhawks closed the half with a three-pointer from Andie Flatgard, marking her fifth straight game with a made three. Despite the late basket, AUM headed into halftime trailing West Florida 36-27. 
 
Third Quarter 
AUM came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring West Florida 16–7 to erase the deficit and knot the game heading into the final period. Early in the quarter, Brooks got a basket while grabbing an offensive rebound on one end and a defensive rebound on the other to spark the Warhawks. Flatgard followed with a three-pointer off an assist from Brooks, her second helper of the game. Flatgard knocked down her third triple to pull AUM within three at 41–38. McAllister added two points at the free-throw line after drawing a foul on a three-point attempt. AUM limited West Florida to just 23.1 percent shooting in the period, as the teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 43–43. 
 
Fourth Quarter 
Scoring for AUM opened with Brooks scoring the first five points for the Warhawks. She went to the free-throw line to record her 19th and 20th points of the game. Brown and Brooks carried the offensive load down the stretch, combining for 16 of AUM's 22 points in the final period. McAllister added a key basket by knocking down her second three-pointer of the night. Flatgard continued her strong shooting performance, finishing 50 percent from beyond the arc after taking her fourth attempt. 
 
Despite the late surge, the Warhawks were unable to complete the comeback, falling 72–65 to West Florida. 
 
Notables 
Samya Brooks posted season highs with 24 points and 11 rebounds in 34 minutes against West Florida. Brooks also added 11 rebounds and 2 assists to her season-high night.  
 
Andie Flatgard scored a season high of 12 points with 4 field goals and 4 three-pointers. 
 
Jaden Toney and Nevaeh Small each recorded season-high two steals. 
 
AUM dominated the boards, out-rebounding West Florida 36-32, including 14 offensive boards that led to 20 second-chance points. 
 
The Warhawks had 9 steals as a team, securing 13 points off turnovers.  
 
AUM finished the game with 22 points in the paint and the bench put up 9 points.
