Warhawks Drop Four-Set Match to Bulldogs

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (2-14, GSC: 0-6) dropped a 3-1 (20-25, 22-25, 25-13, 20-25) decision to the Union Bulldogs (5-13, GSC: 1-6) on Friday evening in Gulf South Conference action at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
The Warhawks stayed within striking distance throughout the opening set before Union pulled away late. AUM trailed 17-21 before cutting the deficit to 19-22, but the Bulldogs scored three of the next four points to close out the set 25-20. AUM recorded nine kills in the frame.
 
SET 2
Union opened the second set with a 3-0 lead and maintained control throughout the frame. AUM continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 20-22 late, but Union scored three of the final five points to take the set 25-22 and build a 2-0 match advantage. The Warhawks recorded 13 kills in the set.
 
SET 3
AUM responded in the third set, turning a 14-10 advantage into a 21-10 lead with a seven-point run. The Warhawks finished the set with 14 kills and just two errors, hitting .429 as a team. AUM closed out the frame 25-13 to cut Union's match lead to 2-1.
 
SET 4
The Warhawks took an early 2-0 lead before Union answered with a 10-4 run. AUM continued to fight and eventually trimmed the deficit from 10-16 to 15-16, but the Bulldogs responded with three consecutive points to regain control. Union went on to close out the set 25-20 and secure the 3-1 victory.
 
NOTABLES
  • Mya Lacey led the Warhawks with 15.5 points, recording 13 kills, two service aces and six digs while surpassing the 100-kill milestone with 107 for the season.
  • Chelsea Daffin added 13 kills, 12 digs, 14.0 points and one service ace.
  • Addison Vinson recorded a team-high 37 assists to go along with two blocks and four digs.
  • Amiliaa DeLeon paced the Warhawks with 19 digs while adding two assists and two kills.
