BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer student-athlete Brayden Nye has been named the Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Champion Scholar-Athlete, the conference announced Thursday evening prior to kickoff of the 2026 GSC Championship semifinal match between AUM and West Alabama.
Â
Nye, an accounting major, maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while balancing his academic commitments with his contributions on the pitch.
Â
He competed in all 16 matches for the Warhawks so far this season, making 14 starts and logging over 1,000 minutes. Nye played a key role in anchoring an AUM back line that surrendered just 13 goals throughout the season.
Â
The Warhawks posted a 0.81 goals-against average, ranking 23rd nationally, while recording eight clean sheets. AUM's defensive efforts helped establish the team as one of the top defensive units in the Gulf South Conference.
Â
This is the eighth year that the Gulf South Conference has presented the Champion Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is given out at the final site of each GSC Championship event and awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among teams participating. Each student-athlete's GPA is based on the most recently completed term, and the individual must have a minimum of 48 credit hours to be eligible for the award. Student-athletes are only eligible to win the award once per academic year.
