Warhawks Roll Past Tuskegee for First Spring Victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's tennis team (1-2) picked up their first win of the spring season over the Tuskegee Golden Tigers (0-4) with a final score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon from the AUM Tennis Complex.

COACH O'BRIEN'S COMMENTS
"The guys did what we asked of them today. Take care of business at home, and they did just that. Good energy after doubles, and played aggressive when the opportunities were there. Good first win of the season for us today. Sets the tone for us going forward.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles
The Warhawks wasted no time earning the doubles point behind straight set wins on all three courts.
 
Mark Nawa and Lucas Rosvall defeated Tuskegee's Thompson Thomu and Jack Shaw 6-2 at the No. 3 position before Guillermo Vedia Sanchez and Jami Savolainen secured the doubles point at the No. 1 slot with a 6-2 victory over the Golden Tigers' Emmanuel Wettey and Tyler Ladge.
 
Giuseppe Bonaiuti and Daniel Margoulis combined for a 6-3 win at the No. 3 slot, taking down Tuskegee's Kevin Eutsey and Ty'Ion Miller.

Singles
The orange and black continued the battle in singles, picking up five straight set singles victories.
 
Savolainen was the first to complete his singles match, defeating his opponent Ladge 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position. Next up was Augustin Wallaert at the No. 4 spot, taking down Tuskegee's Miller without giving up a point, 6-0, 6-0.
 
At the No. 5 slot, Rosvall beat the Golden Tigers' Wettey 6-2, 6-0. Bonaiuti won against Tuskegee's Thomu at the top spot 6-1, 7-5. Nawa defeated his opponent, Shaw, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 slot.
 
Harry McDonagh put up a solid fight at the No. 3 position, but Tuskegee's Kevin Eutsey earned the Golden Tigers their only point of the day with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 win.

The Warhawks are back in action on Monday, February 16 for a match against North Georgia scheduled for 1 p.m. in Dahlonega, Georgia.
