Warhawks Close Weekend with Loss to Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team (3-8; GSC: 0-3) closed out its Gulf South Conference series opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 8–2 to Trevecca Nazarene (6-3; GSC: 3-0) at Jackson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Trevecca Nazarene built its lead early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning before erupting for six runs in the second to take an 8–0 advantage. After the second inning, the Warhawks' pitching staff settled in, holding The Trojans scoreless over the final six innings to keep the game within reach. 

AUM broke through offensively in the top of the ninth inning, beginning with a pinch-hit single from Chance Sweeney followed by a base hit from Chrisopher McNeill.  

Cannon Miller worked a walk to load the bases, setting up an RBI fielder's choice by Luke Turner that put the Warhawks on the board. Kyle Hipp followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home McNeill to cap the scoring for AUM. 

Notables 
Chance Sweeney went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning, sparking Auburn Montgomery's late scoring rally. 

Christopher McNeill recorded a single in the ninth and came around to score, finishing with one of AUM's two runs. 

Kyle Hipp drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and led the team defensively with 10 putouts at first base. 

The Warhawks' pitching staff held Trevecca Nazarene scoreless over the final six innings. 

Tucker Burns reached base via walk, stole a base, and tallied five assists defensively. 

Auburn Montgomery totaled five hits, three walks, and one stolen base in the contest. 

Up Next 

The Warhawks will return home to play against West Alabama for another GSC matchup at the AUM Baseball Complex with the first pitch set for Friday, Feb. 20 at 3 pm.
