COACH WILKES LANEY'S COMMENTS
"Friday was tough. We got punched in the gut. But, we got back up and fought today. I'm proud we were able to win the day today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warhawks got on the board early when
Olivia Watkins reached first base on a Tigers error. After advancing to second on a passed ball,
Rebecca Komers stepped up to the plate and drilled an RBI single through the left side, giving AUM a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Â
West Alabama responded in the next half inning with Kayla Morris' solo shot to left field, evening the score at one run apiece.
Â
Strong defense from both sides resulted in three scoreless innings, bringing the game to the bottom of the sixth frame.
Â
Watkins led off with a walk before the Tigers subbed in Eleanor De Block, who would stay in the circle for the remainder of the day. As the next batter, Komers layed down a sacrifice bunt to advance Watkins to second. This set the stage for
Kennedy Sevcik's go-ahead RBI single through the right side, completing Watkins' trip around the diamond.
Â
The Warhawks' offense continued to keep the pressure on the Tigers; however, the bottom of the sixth inning would come to an end with three runners left on base.
Â
Alivia Messick retired the Tigers in order in the final frame, sealing a 2-1 victory for the Warhawks in game three.
