MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's tennis team (0-1) fell to Columbus State (1-0), 6-1, on Friday at the AUM Tennis Complex in their home opener.
Doubles
AUM picked up an early win as Melissa Yakup Pour and Nagisa Yonezawa secured a 6-0 victory at the No. 1 doubles position. Columbus State responded with wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions to claim the doubles point.
Singles
Columbus State took control early in singles play, earning straight-set wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. The Cougars then added victories at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots to clinch the match.
The Warhawks battled in two singles matches that went the distance. At the No. 1 position, Melissa Yakup Pour pushed Columbus State's Nikoline Gullacksen to three sets before falling 6-0, 0-6, 1-6.
At the No. 3 position, Mercedes Garcia Cide earned AUM's lone point with a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 victory over Sofia Lauretti. Columbus State closed out play with a win at the No. 6 position.
