AUM Drops Homecoming Battle with Union

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's basketball team (3-20, GSC: 3-14) fell to the Union Bulldogs (16-7, GSC: 11-4) 84-66 on Saturday afternoon from the AUM Athletics Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter
An even start set the score at 11-11 after Andie Flatgard hit a jumper in the paint followed by a free throw not long after. Union took the lead on their next basket; however, Ameyah Gray answered with a three pointer to hold the lead for AUM. Three lead changes and three tied scores rounded out the first quarter with the opponents leading 23-22.

Second Quarter
The Bulldogs opened the second quarter with eight consecutive points before Tamora Brown's free throws ended their streak. After an exchange of points, Flatgard knocked down another three point bucket, but Union's Abigail Bryan responded with one of her own.

The final three field goals of the first half went to the Warhawks behind another Flatgard triple, Neveah Small's jumper, and Brown's layup. This resulted in a 43-40 halftime score with the Bulldogs leading by three.

Third Quarter
Both sides traded points early in the third period until Union began to break away with nine straight points. Brown's three point dagger halted the Bulldogs' run, and after a layup from the opponents, Brown struck again with another trey. Union led 60-50 at the end of the third quarter, after Olivia Lee's layup with about a minute to go.

Fourth Quarter
The first five minutes of the fourth quarter featured another exchange of points, bringing Union's lead to 67-58. Over the next four minutes six field goals were made in total, all of them being three-point baskets. The first three came from Union until Flatgard hit one with three minutes to go. Union's Katie Yoder answered with the next three before Flatgard struck again. AUM's late efforts would not be enough to stop the Bulldogs from securing an 84-66 win.
