Warhawks Rally Comes Up Short in 5-4 Loss at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Auburn University at Montgomery baseball (8-18; GSC: 4-11) fell 5-4 to the Christian Brothers Buccaneers on the road Sunday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field (6-18; GSC: 2-13).

The Buccaneers struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, scoring three runs on four hits to jump ahead 3-0. The Buccaneers continued to apply pressure in the second inning when short stop Jackson Licata connected for a solo home run to left field, extending the lead to 4-0.

AUM began to chip away in the fourth inning, putting together a four-hit frame to cut into the deficit. Christopher McNeill, the left fielder, started the rally with a single before Tucker Burns added a base hit. With runners on, Alec Hotaling delivered an RBI single to bring home McNeill, and John Kiebler followed with a run-scoring single to right-center that plated Burns and trimmed the lead to 4-2.

Christian Brothers responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Licata that pushed the advantage to 5-2.

The Warhawks continued to fight back offensively in the fifth inning. Anderson Harris singled to begin the rally and later stole second base before moving into scoring position with the help of a single from McNeill. Cannon Miller brought Harris home with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 5-3.

AUM pulled within one run in the seventh inning. After Miller reached base and moved into scoring position, Luke Turner delivered a clutch two-out double to left field that scored Miller and made it a 5-4 ballgame.

The Warhawks threatened late but were unable to push across the tying run, leaving the potential equalizer stranded as Christian Brothers closed out the one-run victory.
