MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks softball team (16-4, GSC: 4-4) shut out the Mississippi College Choctaws (12-9-1, GSC: 5-3) 7-0 while battling with the elements in game one before falling 7-3 in game two.

COACH WILKES LANEY'S COMMENTS
"Offensively, I thought we did really well. We hit the ball well and scored runs. One thing we could have done better is control the controllable. We didn't take care of some defensive plays, and moving forward, that's something we will strive to be better at. Tomorrow is a new day, and I look forward to seeing our team compete in game three."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game #1 AUM 7, MC 0
Reese Cauley set the tone for the day, striking out the first batter she faced and ending the half inning with no damage.Â

With no runs scored from either side, the Warhawks opened the bottom of the second frame with
Gracie Suggs knocking a strong double down the left field line as the leadoff batter.
Olivia Watkins followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance Suggs to third base.
Gabbi Barnowsky was then hit by a pitch and was able to use her speed to swipe second base. With two runners in scoring position,
Jasmine Sneed stepped up to the plate with two outs on the board. She roped a two-RBI single down the right field line, plating Suggs and Barnowski while putting the Warhawks in front 2-0.

Once again, Cauley struck out the first batter she faced and kept Mississippi College off the board, this time in the top of the third frame.

Rebecca Komers opened the bottom of the inning with a base hit before
Karris Rhine reached on Choctaws' fielding error on the next at-bat.
Kennedy Sevcik worked a walk to load the bases, setting up Sugg's trip to the batters box where she notched a sacrifice fly to score Komers. Watkins followed with an RBI base hit to plate Rhine and extend AUM's lead to 4-0.

Cauley retired the Choctaws in order in the top of the fourth inning before turning around and launching a double to left center field as the leadoff batter in the bottom of the frame.
Gracie Mason then subbed in to pinch run for Cauley. Not long after,
Chloe Baynes drilled an RBI-triple to left field, plating Mason. Komers was the next batter and smacked an RBI-double to left field, allowing Baynes to easily trot home.
Kennedy Sevcik then singled to center field, completing Komers' trip around the diamond and putting the Warhawks up 7-0 after four frames.

Game #1 Notables
- Reese Cauley improved to 9-1 after she tossed yet another complete game shutout while striking out four batters, drawing just two walks, and allowing no runs on six hits. On the offensive side, Cauley added a double in the fourth frame.
- Chloe Baynes went 2-for-4 at the plate while notching a triple, one RBI, and a run.
- Rebecca Komers also took two hits on four at bats. She tallied two runs, one RBI, and hit a double in the fourth inning.
- Olivia Watkins was perfect in the batters box (2-for-2) while adding an RBI and a sacrifice fly.
- Eight Warhawks recorded at least one hit in game one.

Game #2 | AUM 3, MC 7
Two quick innings brought the game to the top of the third frame with no runs scored from either team. Mississippi College was the first to get on the board with back to back doubles in the top of the third frame to take a 2-0 lead.

The orange and black responded in the bottom of the fourth inning behind four consecutive hits. Watkins took the first base hit before Barnowski followed with a single to left field to hold two runners on. This set up a big moment for
Chloe Hollon who launched a two-RBI triple to left field. Sneed's base hit brought Hollon in to tie up the score at 3-3 after four innings.

The visiting team went on to plate five runs in the bottom of the sixth frame, eventually resulting in a 7-3 loss for AUM.

- Rebecca Komers went 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, a sacrifice fly, and worked a walk.Â
- Olivia Watkins took two hits on three at-bats and a run.
- Gabbi Barnowsky totaled two hits on three at-bats as well as rounding the diamond once.
- Chloe Hollon hit a triple in the fourth frame as her first of freshman campaign.
